Current Affairs of 1st August – National News


1. The Punjab Sports Department will host the “Khed Mela” starting on August 29.
◉ Punjab’s Sports Department will hold the Punjab Khed Mela.
◉ With the goal of identifying talent, creating a welcoming environment for sports, and raising public awareness of health, 30 sports will be played in six age groups for participants between the ages of 14 and 60.
◉ There will be competitions in the age groups of 25 to 40, 40 to 50, and 50 to 60 in addition to the previously held under-14, under-17, and 17 to 25 age groups.
◉ The Mela will take place from the block to the state level and begin on August 29 in honor of National Sports Day.

2. Savitri Jindal surpasses all other Asian women in wealth.
◉ According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Savitri Jindal, an Indian woman in her seventies, has amassed a wealth of $11.3 billion, making her the richest woman in Asia.
◉ Jindal, 72, is the 10th richest person in the world and the richest lady in India.
◉ She took Yang Huiya’s spot in China, who had a net worth of $11.0 billion.
◉ Huiyan, who is in charge of Country Garden Holdings, China’s largest real estate developer, has seen his wealth decline by half, from roughly 24 billion dollars last year to just 11 billion this year.

3. Mahtari Nyay Rath was introduced by the chief minister of Chhattisgarh to raise awareness of women’s rights.
◉ The “Mukhyamantri Mahtari Nyay Rath” was launched by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel with the intention of educating the state’s female citizens about their legal and constitutional rights.
◉ Through short films, it will tour the state educating people about women’s rights. On a huge LED screen, nationally acclaimed educational short films in Chhattisgarhi and Hindi will be played.
◉ Two attorneys will ride in each chariot, listening to women’s complaints and offering information and counsel.

4. Paytm was replaced by Mastercard as the BCCI’s title sponsor.
◉ All local and international cricket matches are now sponsored by Mastercard instead of Paytm, thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
◉ The rights belonged to Paytm until the end of 2023.
◉ According to the original conditions of the Paytm deal, Mastercard would allegedly be given the rights till 2023 and continue to get Rs 3.8 Crore for each match. While Paytm would be required to pay a re-assignment charge of about Rs. 16.3 Crore (5 percent of the original contract value) (Rs 326.8 Cr).

5. Awards for the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund will be presented by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
◉ In New Delhi, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards were awarded by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
◉ As a specific Central Government program, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund has introduced two years ago as part of the expansive Aatmanirbhar Bharat Package.
◉ For investments in the development of post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets, it offers a medium-long term credit facility.

6. RBI has set a deadline of October 1 for card tokenization.
◉ In two different announcements, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has provided instructions to make the transition to new standards on card-on-file (CoF) tokenization and licensing of payment aggregators (PAs) easier.
◉ The central bank announced two temporary solutions while emphasizing that beginning on October 1, no other party in the card transaction chain—aside from card issuers and card networks—shall keep CoF data.

7. Sanjay Arora will become the new commissioner of the Delhi Police.
◉ Sanjay Arora, an IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu Cadre who oversaw the paramilitary ITBP, will take over as commissioner of the Delhi Police. In 2025, he is expected to retire.
◉ Rakesh Asthana, an IPS officer from the Gujarat Cadre who retired after nearly 38 years of service, was succeeded as commissioner of the Delhi Police by Sanjay Arora.
◉ The retiring commissioner of the Delhi Police, Rakesh Asthana, stated that he still has a great desire to serve the general public and the department notwithstanding his retirement.

8. The “Distinguished Indologist for 2021” award went to Jeffrey Armstrong.
◉ The Distinguished Indologist award for 2021 has been given to Canadian academic Jeffrey Armstrong by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
◉ The honor was given to Jeffrey Armstrong during a ceremony by Manish, the Indian consul general in Vancouver.
◉ ‘In appreciation of his extraordinary contribution to the study of India’s history & culture,’ Armstrong has been given this honor.

9. At CWG 2022, Mirabai Chanu brought home India’s first gold medal.
◉ Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the women’s 49-kilogram division in Birmingham.
◉ In the snatch, clean, and jerk category, Chanu lifted a total of 201 kilograms (88 kg + 113 kg).
◉ Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa of Mauritius (172 kg) won the silver, and Hannah Kaminski of Canada won the bronze (171 kg).

10. The signing of guarantees for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup has received government approval.
◉ The signing of assurances for hosting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India in 2022 has been accepted by the Union Cabinet, which is presided over by PM Narendra Modi.
◉ The competition is slated to take place from October 11 to October 30, 2022, in Bhubaneswar, Goa, and Mumbai.
◉ The event will mark its eighth iteration.

11. India’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 was won by Sanket Mahadev Sargar.
◉ At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, Sanket Mahadev Sargar (from Sangli in Maharashtra) won silver in the men’s 55 kg weightlifting, earning India its first medal.
◉ He has lifted 248 kg in total (113 and 135).
◉ With a total lift of 249kg, Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq won the gold medal (10 and142).

12. Hungarian Grand Prix 2022 was won by Max Verstappen.
◉ The Hungarian Grand Prix of 2022 was won by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who was followed by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and George Russell (Mercedes driver).
◉ He earned his eighth victory of the Formula One 2022 campaign and his 28th overall with this triumph.

13. Nirmala Mishra, a veteran singer, went away.
◉ Nirmala Mishra, a well-known Bengali vocalist, has passed away. She was 81.
◉ In Bengali, Odia, and Assamese films, she performed a variety of songs.
◉ She has also received the “Sangeet Samman,” “Sangeet Mahasamman,” and “Bangabhibhushan” honors from the West Bengal government.
