Current Affairs of 22nd August – National News


1. The Vidya Rath – School on Wheels project was started by the Assam CM.
◉ Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has begun the “Vidya Rath -School on Wheels” program.
◉ The goal of this project is to give economically disadvantaged, impoverished kids access to primary education for a 10-month period.
◉ They will be introduced into the traditional educational system after 10 months.
◉ Under the scheme, students will receive free lunches, clothing, and textbooks.

2. Bhagat Singh will be the name of the airport in Chandigarh.
◉ Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be honored by having the Chandigarh International Airport in Mohali named after him by the governments of Punjab and Haryana.
◉ The choice was made during a meeting between the chief ministers of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, and Haryana, Dushyant Chautala.
◉ The Punjab and Haryana governments, along with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), collaborated on the Rs 485 crore airport project.
◉ The airport should be called “Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali,” the Punjab government demanded in 2017.

3. NIDAAN, India’s first webpage on arrested drug dealers, goes live
◉ A number of central and state prosecution authorities can now use the first-of-its-kind database of arrested drug offenders.
◉ The Narcotics Control Bureau created the website NIDAAN or the National Integrated Database on Arrested Narco offenders (NCB).
◉ It is a component of the NCORD platform, which was introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the national conference on “Drug trafficking and national security” in Chandigarh.

4. Launch of the country’s first locally made monkeypox test kit
◉ At the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone, the first RT-PCR kit for monkeypox testing that was produced locally was introduced (AMTZ).
◉ The kit, created by Transasia Bio-Medicals, was unveiled by Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Center.
◉ The Transasia-Erba monkeypox RT-PCR kit is a simple-to-use test with a specially developed primer and probe for increased accuracy. It is very sensitive.
◉ India has released the first RT-PCR kit for monkeypox illness testing that was locally created.

5. In order to restore seven ancient artefacts to India, the Scottish Museum and the Indian government have signed a contract.
◉ The Indian government and museums in Glasgow, Scotland, have inked a repatriation deal for seven stolen artefacts.
◉ Six of the objects are stone door jams from the 11th century and other carvings from the 14th century. In the nineteenth century, they were taken from temples and shrines.

6. Canada will host the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.
◉ The 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPA), taking place in Halifax, Canada, will be attended by a team of Indian lawmakers led by Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
◉ The dates for this conference are set for 20–26 August 2022.
◉ 23 presiding officers and 16 secretaries from Indian state legislatures who are also CPA members will also attend the conference.

7. Sharma, Vijay Shekhar Reappointed as Paytm’s MD and CEO
◉ The financial services platform Paytm’s managing director and CEO, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, has been reappointed.
◉ Paytm, India’s top digital payment and financial services provider and the inventor of QR and mobile payments, is owned by One97 Communications Limited (OCL).
◉ Vijay Shekhar Sharma established the Paytm firm in 2010.

13. Samar “Badru” Banerjee, a former captain of the Olympic football team, died.
