1. Kerala becomes the first entirely digital banking state in the nation.
◉ Kerala has been designated as the first state in the nation to fully digitalize its financial system, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
◉ This accomplishment was made possible by social interventions made by institutions of local self-government, as well as by the growth of the banking industry’s infrastructure and technological advancements.
◉ The ambitious Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON) project of the state government will lessen the digital divide, he also stated.

2. India and Panama inked an MoU to expand their collaboration in diplomat training.
◉ To increase collaboration in diplomat training, India and Panama have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
◉ When Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, and Janaina Tewaney, the minister of foreign affairs of Panama, met on the margins of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention in Indore, they exchanged an official agreement.
◉ The arrangement would enable ambassadors from the two nations to continue gaining knowledge and expertise from one another in their specialized sectors of diplomatic studies.

◉ For the best actor category, actors Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborthy, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi have also made the shortlist.

4. At the Golden Globes, RRR won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.

5. Veer Guardian-2023 will be the first bilateral air exercise between India and Japan.
◉ The first combined aviation exercise between India and Japan, called Veer Guardian 2023, is about to start.
◉ From January 12 through January 26, 2023, Hyakuri Aviation Base in Japan will host the first bilateral air exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF).
◉ The Japanese air bases of Hyakuri and Iruma will host the joint exercise “Veer Guardian 2023” between the Indian Air Force and the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF).

6. Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most hundreds is tied with Virat Kohli.
◉ Following his century against Sri Lanka in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Guwahati, former India captain Virat Kohli has now recorded the joint most ODI centuries in a nation.
It was Kohli’s 20th ODI hundred in India, tying Sachin Tendulkar for the most in the history of the game.
◉ On home turf, Kohli needed just 99 innings to reach his 20th ODI century while Sachin needed 160.
◉ The next two players on the record for most ODI hundreds in a nation are South Africans Hashim Amla (14 hundred in 69 innings for South Africa) and Ricky Ponting (14 hundred in 151 innings for Australia).

7. Men’s single Adelaide International 1 champion Novak Djokovic 2023
◉ American Sebastian Korda was defeated by Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic to claim the 2023 Adelaide International 1 men’s singles championship.
◉ Aryna Sabalenka defeated Czech player Linda Noskova to win the women’s singles title at Adelaide International 1. This was her 11th singles victory on the WTA Tour.

10. Rehman Rahi, the first Jnanpith recipient from Kashmir, passed away.
◉ Prof. Rehman Rahi, a well-known poet and Kashmir’s first recipient of the Jnanpith prize passed away recently at the age of 98.
◉ Rahi composed a number of exquisite poetry and also rendered into Kashmiri the works of other well-known poets who wrote in other languages.
◉ For his collection “Siyah Rood Jaeren Manz,” he was given the Jnanpith prize in 2007, the nation’s top literary honor (In Black Drizzle).

11. Laparoscopic surgery’s founder Tehemton Udwadia died.
◉ The ‘father of laparoscopic surgery in India,’ Tehemton Erach Udwadia, an Indian surgeon and gastroenterologist, passed yesterday at the age of 88.
◉ In 1972, he was the first surgeon in India to use laparoscopy in surgery, and in 1990, he was the first to do laparoscopic surgery outside of developed nations.
