Current Affairs of 14th July – National News


1. Researchers at IIT Guwahati create an Al-based knee X-ray model.
◉ A Deep Learning (DL) based framework called OsteoHRNet was created by researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati to automatically determine the severity of knee osteoarthritis (OA) using X-ray pictures.
◉ This AI-based model can be used to gauge the disease’s severity and support doctors remotely for a more precise diagnosis.
◉ The most prevalent musculoskeletal condition worldwide, knee osteoarthritis, affects 28 per cent of people in India.
◉ Except for advanced total joint replacement, there is no known treatment for knee OA. In order to treat pain and change behaviour, a quick diagnosis is crucial.

2. By 2028, Maharashtra will have a trillion-dollar economy.
◉ The State Economy Development Council’s head, N Chandrashekhar, predicted that Maharashtra’s economy will reach a trillion dollars by 2028.
◉ Eknath Shinde, the chief minister, and Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister, both received the council’s recommendation report.
◉ A total of 8 sectors, including 5 relating to the industry sector and 3 connecting all of these sectors simultaneously, have been primarily taken into account in the report.
◉ Farmers, business owners, local self-government organisations, and industry professionals have all participated in its ideas and discussions.

3. For heart patients, UP Govt will put defibrillators in workplaces and shopping centres.
◉ In order to provide the patient with the necessary first aid in case of cardiac arrest at all of these locations, the Yogi Adityanath-led government of Uttar Pradesh plans to install Automated External ◉ Defibrillators (AEDs) or shock machines at all government buildings, malls, etc., including the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat.
◉ The state government’s latest endeavour, which will be unveiled on August 1, is in keeping with its continuous initiatives to enhance the state’s healthcare facilities and infrastructure.

4. In terms of larger states, Sikkim leads and UP is second.
◉ Sikkim, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh are the northeastern states that have done the best job of responding to citizen grievances.
◉ The Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) monthly report for states for June 2023 was published by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), which is part of the Personnel Ministry.
◉ With a score of 66.70 per cent, the government of Sikkim tops the list of northeastern states. Assam is second with a score of 57.45 per cent, while Arunachal Pradesh is third with a score of 52.30 per cent.
◉ Between January and June 2023, Sikkim resolved 173 grievances, with an average resolution time of 43 days.

5. ‘Lisa’, the first regional Al news anchor in India, is welcomed.
◉ The debut of “Lisa,” India’s first regional AI news anchor, by Odisha TV, an Odia-based news network, marks a crucial turning point for the AI sector.
◉ With the potential to completely transform the business, Lisa’s entry into the world of TV broadcasting and journalism is a momentous occasion.
◉ She would soon be hosting news updates, displaying her ability as an AI news presenter, the news network announced.
◉ Odia, English, and other languages are among the impressively diverse languages that Lisa is able to speak.

6. The first flight training organisation in Tamil Nadu is the 36th in India overall.
◉ The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (GDCA) has authorised the 36th Flight Training Organisation (FTO) in India and the first FTO in Tamil Nadu.
◉ The creation of FTO has been authorised for EKVI Air Training Organisation Pvt. Ltd., situated at Salem Airport in Tamil Nadu.
◉ This would give ambitious pilots in Tamil Nadu training options in accordance with DGCA requirements as the only licenced flight training school in the area, helping to develop the nation’s aviation industry.
◉ It will provide a range of aviation-related courses.

7. Rajnath Singh opens the regional office of HAL in Malaysia
◉ To encourage close defence industry cooperation between India and Malaysia, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the regional office of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Kuala Lumpur.
◉ It would also act as a portal for other Indian military PSUs and as a centre for HAL’s engagement with the larger South-East Asian area.
◉ Malaysia has expressed interest in purchasing HAL-produced Tejas fighter planes.
◉ The second-largest population of People of Indian Origin (PIO) resides in Malaysia.

8. Peru declares a health emergency due to an outbreak of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
◉ Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological condition, has been on the rise in Peru, prompting the country to declare a national emergency.
◉ To stop the outbreak, a 90-day health emergency has been declared in the nation.
◉ 182 instances in all have been documented thus far, of whom 147 have been discharged, four people have passed away, and 31 are still hospitalised.

9. CPI inflation jumps to 4.81% in June 2023, exceeding predictions.
◉ According to the Ministry of Statistics, India’s retail inflation for the month of June 2023 climbed to 4.81 per cent for the first time in five months from a downwardly revised 4.31 per cent in May.
◉ This is greater than the 4.58 per cent market expectations.
◉ For the fourth consecutive month, the inflation measured by the consumer price index (CPI) was within the 2–6 per cent tolerance range set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
◉ From 2.91 per cent in May, the consumer food price index (CFPI) increased to 4. 49 per cent in June. Inflation in rural areas was 4.72 per cent, compared to 4.96 per cent in urban areas.

10. Preeti Aghalayam will lead IIT Zanzibar as the organization’s first female director.
◉ Preeti Aghalayam, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, has been appointed director-in-charge of the IIT Zanzibar campus in Tanzania.
◉ IIT Madras was able to open its first international campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, thanks to a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between India and Tanzania.
◉ According to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, “high-performing Indian universities will be encouraged to establish campuses in other countries.”
◉ IIT Madras awarded Aghalayam, 49, her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering in 1995, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst awarded her PhD in 2000.

11. In the discus throw at the Para Athletics World Championships, Yogesh Kathuniya takes home silver.
◉ At the World Para Athletics Championships, Yogesh Kathuniya earned a silver medal in the discus throw competition.
◉ As a result, he qualified for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, becoming the third Indian to receive this honour. Yogesh demonstrated great talent, tenacity, and toughness with a best effort of 43.17 metres.
◉ Yogesh, who is 26 years old, previously held down the second spot in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. Now, he is focused on winning the elusive gold medal in Paris the following year, hoping to make career-changing progress in the process.
