1. PM Modi inaugurated a 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman in the Gujarat town of Morbi.
◉ On Hanuman Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi erected a 108-foot statue of Lord Hanuman in Morbi, Gujarat.
◉ As part of the ‘Hanumanji Char Dham project,’ the statue is the second of four statues being erected in each of the four directions across the country.

2. The “UDAN” programme has been chosen for the Prime Minister’s Award for Public Administration Excellence in 2020.
◉ The flagship plan of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN (UdeDeshkaAamNagrik), has been selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 in the category “Innovation (General) – Central.”
◉ Rather than focusing solely on numeric targets, the strategy prioritised good governance, qualitative successes, and last-mile connection.

3. In Bhuj, the PM dedicated the K. K. Patel Super Specialty Hospital.
◉ PM Narendra Modi dedicated the 200-bed KK Patel Super Speciality Hospital in Bhuj, Gujarat’s Kutch district, to the country.
◉ It is the first philanthropic super speciality hospital in the Kutch region, and it was created by Shree Kutchi Leva Patel Samaj, Bhuj.

4. The 20th Joint Staff Meeting between India and France was held in Paris.
◉ The 20th Joint Staff Talks between India and France focused on new initiatives within the existing bilateral defence cooperation system, as well as strengthening ongoing defence engagements.
◉ The two-day sessions were held in a pleasant, cordial, and respectful atmosphere in Paris. The Joint Staff Consultations between India and France are a venue for the two countries to deepen their defence cooperation through frequent operational and strategic meetings.

5. India has been elected to four UN ECOSOC bodies.
◉ India has been elected to the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, one of the four major bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
◉ The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six main institutions of the United Nations System, founded in 1945 by the United Nations Charter. It is made up of 54 United Nations members that were chosen by the General Assembly.

6. Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya has chosen Paytm as its official digital payments partner.
◉ Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, or Prime Ministers’ Museum, in New Delhi to recognise the contributions of all 14 Indian Prime Ministers since independence, regardless of ideology or tenure.
◉ The Prime Ministers’ Museum has chosen Paytm as its official digital payment partner. Its payment gateway, EDC (Electronic Data Capture) equipment, and QR code payment solutions are all available to enable ultrafast, quick, and secure transactions.

7. Three General Insurance Companies’ authorised share capital has been enhanced by the government.
◉ The authorised share capital of three public sector general insurance companies – National Insurance Company Limited, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, and United India Insurance Company – has been enhanced by the government. This will result in a capital infusion of Rs. 5,000 crore into these companies.
◉ According to a notification issued by the Finance Ministry, the allowed capital for National Insurance will now be 15,000 crores (1,500 crore shares with a face value of 10 each), up from the present 7,500 crores (1,500 crore shares with a face value of ten each).

8. ‘Iron Beam,’ Israel’s new laser missile defence system, was put to the test.
◉ Israel has successfully tested the ‘Iron Beam’ laser missile defence system. It is capable of intercepting a wide range of aerial targets, including missiles, rockets, anti-tank missiles, and even drones.
◉ Rafael Advanced Defence Systems is the company behind the Iron Beam.

9. Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, revealed the logo for the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup.
◉At the Kalinga stadium in the capital, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik revealed the logo for the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.
◉The famous quadrennial event will be conducted in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29.

10. At the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship, Tamil Nadu won the men’s title.
◉Tamil Nadu won the men’s title in the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship by defeating defending champion Punjab 87-69 in the final. The women’s title was won by the great Indian Railways squad, which defeated Telangana 131-82 in decisive fashion, with to Poonam Chaturvedi’s 26 points.
◉Tamil Nadu pulled ahead after a poor start in the men’s summit match, but Punjab kept up and never looked back. With a 50-33 score at halftime, the hosts had extended their lead to 17 points. For the home squad, An Aravind (26 points) and M Arvind Kumar (21) were in good form as they stamped their dominance on their arch-rival.

11. Hamish Bennett, a New Zealand pacer, has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket.
◉Hamish Bennett, a 35-year-old New Zealand pacer (fast bowler), has announced his retirement from cricket after a 17-year career, with the 2021/22 season being the final one.
◉Hamish Bennett debuted for New Zealand in October 2010, playing in one Test, 19 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 11 Twenty-20 Internationals (T20Is).

◉Veteran Manju Singh, a Hindi television presenter, and performer, died of heart arrest.
