1. “Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam” is inaugurated by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In Vijayawada
◉ At Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, officially opened the Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam.
◉ The festival offers a three-day celebration of classical music with performances by well-known artists, as well as a local food and craft fair and handloom sales.
◉ Minister Sitharaman emphasized the Telugu language’s major contributions to classical traditions as well as the rich legacy of Telugu culture during the inauguration.
◉ She congratulated the organizers of the large-scale music festival in Andhra Pradesh and emphasized the need to bring back the illustrious traditions and teach the next generation about them.

2. The new chief minister of Chhattisgarh is Vishnu Deo Sai.
◉ The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen tribal leader and former Union Minister Vishnu Deo Sai as its candidate for Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, a calculated move ahead of the general elections of 2024.
◉ The 59-year-old Vishnu Deo Sai is a four-term member of parliament who was the president of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh branch from 2020 to 2022. He keeps a low-key persona in the political sphere and is well-known for his organizational abilities. Sai has a lengthy history with the party as a member of the BJP National Working Committee.

3. PM Launches First Indian Biennale of Architecture, Design, and Craft in 2023 In Delhi’s Red Fort
◉ At the renowned Red Fort, India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, officially opened the first Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) 2023. The “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design” and the student biennale, Samunnati, were also inaugurated at the event.
◉ At the opening event, Shri Modi highlighted the historical significance of the Red Fort while unveiling the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design” and touring the exhibition. It was noted that the creation of cultural spaces in five major cities—Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi—was a significant move toward enhancing the cultural landscape of these areas.

4. Supreme Court Upholds Article 370 Abrogation: Notable Decision Points
◉ In a historic ruling on December 11, 2023, the Supreme Court affirmed the Union Government’s 2019 decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) unique status under Article 370 of the Constitution.
◉ The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, led a constitutional bench that gave the decision, which addressed important constitutional issues and drew important findings.
◉ The Union Government’s move to withdraw J&K’s special status under Article 370 was upheld by the Supreme Court, which emphasized the state’s lack of internal sovereignty. The court made it clear that Article 370 was considered a temporary provision and that the State Government’s approval was not required

◉ The US government has named Indian social activist Nikhil Dey an International Anti-Corruption Champion for 2023. Nikhil Dey has been a steadfast supporter of legislative changes meant to give ◉ Indian workers more authority over the past 35 years.
Co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS), an organization located in Rajasthan that leads India’s efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency, is Dey.
◉ His efforts to expose official corruption—specifically, underpayment of workers on official projects—were recognized by the US State Department. Dey’s work has focused on developing worker and peasant empowerment initiatives that aim to combat corruption in the provision of crucial government services.

6. The Indian Navy Performs the Biannual “Prasthan” Exercise Off the Coast of Mumbai
◉ The Indian Navy recently finished a two-phase, extensive exercise called “Prasthan” in the Offshore Development Area off the coast of Mumbai, working with several defense, state, and civil entities.
◉ This exercise, which is carried out every six months, is essential for verifying and improving policies and protocols meant to handle different emergencies that could occur on oil production sites.
◉ Simulating security issues, such as possible terrorist attacks and bomb threats employing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), was the main goal of the exercise’s initial phase.
Responding to emergencies like fires on the oil platform and helping a crippled vessel in the offshore development region were the main objectives of the exercise’s second phase.

7. A tabletop exercise is organized by the Indian Army to empower women officers in ASEAN.
◉ The Indian Army recently held a tabletop exercise (TTX) for women officers from the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which was a significant step towards developing gender inclusion and boosting the capabilities of women military personnel in peacekeeping operations.
◉ This exercise is a part of the continuing cooperative military training programs between ASEAN member states and India. It took place at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi from December 4 to 8. The Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) is leading the program.
◉ The tabletop exercise is an extension of the joint ASEAN-Indian efforts to improve the readiness and effectiveness of female officers in peacekeeping operations.

10. Veteran Kannada Performer Leelavathi Dies at the Age of 86
◉ The respected Kannada performer Leelavathi went away at the age of 86, which was a sad event for fans and the cinema industry. The seasoned performer, renowned for her range of roles, made a lasting impression on the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema industries.
◉ With a career spanning more than 600 films, Leelavathi made her film debut in “Bhakta Prahlada” in 1958. She made her debut in the Kannada cinema business that same year as the lead actress in “Mangalya Yoga,” and she became well-known very soon.

11. Joe Solomon, an ex-West Indies batter, passes away 93 years old
◉ The 93-year-old former cricket player for Guyana and the West Indies, Joe Solomon, passed away today. Solomon is renowned for his incredible on-field exploits and was a major player in West Indies cricket in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
◉ Joe Solomon began playing cricket somewhat later than usual players, at the age of 26. His three centuries in his opening three matches—114 not out against Jamaica, 108 against Barbados, and 121 against the visiting Pakistani team—marked a magnificent comeback to the game.
