Current Affairs of 10th May – National News


1. As the first state to provide digital health cards for kids, Uttar Pradesh
◉ A “School Health Programme” was started by Lucknow Smart City and the Urban Development Department of Uttar Pradesh.
◉ Three schools in Lucknow have begun the School Health Programme as part of the pilot project, according to Lucknow Smart City. A digital health report card for the general physical and mental health of 1765 municipal school pupils is also being created as part of the project, according to the official release.
◉ These kids also have the advantage of health insurance at Rs 25,000.

2. India extends Sri Lanka’s access to a $1 billion credit line by one year.
◉ The crisis-hit nation of Sri Lanka now has a backup infusion of dollars for imports of necessities thanks to India’s decision to extend a $1 billion credit line for Sri Lanka by one year.
◉ The credit line, which was a portion of the $4 billion in emergency aid provided by India at the height of Sri Lanka’s financial crisis in the first quarter of last year, was set to expire in March.
◉ After discussions, the credit line’s expiration date was raised to March 2024. The credit line has around $350 million left, which can be used as needed.

3. PM Modi dedicates more than Rs. 5,500 crore to projects in Rajasthan
◉ In Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially opened and laid the cornerstone for a number of development projects totaling more than 5,500 crores.
◉ Modi dedicates three significant national highway projects to the nation: the 47 km NH 58E, the 110 km Bar-Bilara-Jodhpur portion of NH-25, and the 114 km (71 miles) six-lane Udaipur-Shamlaji part of NH-48.
◉ The infrastructure and connectivity of the area are to be improved by these initiatives, which would afterward improve the socioeconomic standing of locals.

4. Microsoft works with MakeMyTrip
◉ In order to provide accessibility and inclusivity for its consumers, voice-assisted bookings in Indian languages have been introduced by digital travel company MakeMyTrip in partnership with Microsoft.
◉ Azure Cognitive Services and Microsoft Azure OpenAI are the engines behind this new platform.
◉ The brand-new service will allow for user involvement and provide tailored travel advice depending on their preferences.
◉ Additionally, it will support designing and purchasing vacation packages based on several factors including the occasion, spending limit, preferred activities, time of travel, hotel reviews, etc.
◉ For consumers purchasing flights and vacations, a beta version of this integration has been made available in English and Hindi. In the following stage, voice-assisted booking will be added to include other transportation options.

4. Russia holds its 78th Victory Day parade in Moscow’s Red Square.
◉ On May 9, Russia celebrates the 78th anniversary of the Triumph Day parade in Red Square, Moscow, to mark the momentous triumph of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in World War II, also known as the Great Patriotic War, in 1945.
◉ More than 10,000 people participated in the parade this year, and Sergey Shoigu, the Russian Defence Minister, displayed 125 different pieces of weapons.
◉ Victory Day is a significant national holiday in Russia because it honors the enormous sacrifices made by the Soviet Union during World War II when around 27 million people died.

5. Climate Dialogue in Petersberg in 2023
◉ Germany’s Berlin hosted the Petersberg Dialogue 2023 on Climate Change.
◉ The United Arab Emirates, the upcoming COP28-Presidency, and the German Federal Foreign Office together organized the PCD series in Berlin.
◉ The 14th in a series of high-level dialogues was attended by delegates from 40 nations. Its main objective is to increase confidence in international climate negotiations as well as between nations.

6. RBI fines HSBC 1.73 billion dollars.
◉ For violating the Credit Information Companies Rules, 2006, the RBI fined Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd (HSBC) Rs 1.73 crore.
◉ This action is based on regulatory compliance issues, and it is not meant to rule on the legality of any agreements or transactions the bank has with its clients.
◉ In addition, the RBI fined the Trichur Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, Thrissur, Kerala, Rs 2 lakh for failing to follow instructions about the management of advances—UCBs—issued by the central bank.

7. India’s GDP growth was downgraded by Fitch to 6% for 2023–2024.
◉ According to Fitch Ratings, India’s GDP growth is expected to drop to 6% in 2023–2024 from 6.2% and 6.7% in 2024–2025.
◉ Reason: Citing challenges caused by high prices and interest rates as well as weak global demand.
◉ The rating agency has also maintained India’s long-term foreign currency issuer default rating at ‘BBB-‘ with a stable outlook.

8. The ICC named Fakhar Zaman and Naruemol Chaiwai as players of the month.
◉ The ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2023 is Pakistan’s, Fakhar Zaman.
◉ Late in the month, at Rawalpindi, Fakhar led Pakistan to their second-highest ODI run chase. To help Pakistan defeat visiting New Zealand by chasing down a 337-run mark and take a 2-0 series lead, the opener scored an unbeaten 180.
◉ The ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2023 has been named as Thailand batter Naruemol Chaiwai.
◉ The middle order of Thailand, led by 32-year-old Chaiwai, was solid throughout her team’s victory in the ODI series against Zimbabwe.

10. Samaresh Majumdar, a well-known Bengali author, has passed away.
◉ Samaresh Majumdar, a well-known Bengali author, dies at the age of 79.
◉ Author Majumdar, who was born on March 10th, 1944, is well known for his ‘Animesh’ series.
‘Dour’ (Run), a novel by this author, was first published in 1967. Even ‘Arjun-Kalimpong E Sitaharan’, a 2013 movie, was based on one of his works.
◉ In addition to “Uttoradhikar,” “Kaalpurush,” “Satkahan,” and “Adventures of Detective Arjun,” Majumdar is well recognized.
◉ The writer-poet has received a plethora of honors, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for “Kalbela” in 1984.
