Current Affairs of 15th November – National News


1. The 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

◉ From November 16–17, 2023, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will make an official visit to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, to attend the 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting–Plus (ADMM–Plus).
◉ Rajnath Singh will attend bilateral talks with the defense ministers of the participating 18 nations to address defense cooperation issues and further expand mutually beneficial engagements on the fringes of ADMM-Plus, the highest defense consultative and cooperative forum in ASEAN.
◉ With the purpose of enhancing security and defense cooperation, the ASEAN member states (Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and its eight dialogue partners (India, US, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand) can collaborate through the ADMM-Plus.

2. Meghalaya started a campaign called “Food Security” to end hunger.
◉ The goal of Meghalaya’s “Food Security” Campaign is to attain Sustainable Development Goal 2, “Zero Hunger,” by raising public awareness of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013.
◉ The government of Meghalaya launched this campaign to educate the public about food grains being accessible to even the most impoverished.
◉ It also seeks to inform important stakeholders, the public, community-based organizations, and other partners about government programs and facilities.

3. Held in New Delhi, the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2023
◉ The Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD), the Indian Navy’s yearly pinnacle-level international conference, will take place in New Delhi from November 15–17, 2023.
◉ The Hon. Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, will give the keynote address at the event. Senior government officials and union ministers will also give a number of Special Addresses.
◉ “Geopolitical Impacts upon Indo-Pacific Maritime Trade and Connectivity” is the main theme of IPRD-2023.

4. Ministry of Housing launches “AAINA Dashboard for Cities” portal
◉ The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has activated the portal aaina.gov.in known as the “AAINA Dashboard for Cities.”
◉ Through an easy-to-fill data input form on the portal, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) nationwide can take part in this innovative effort by voluntarily submitting their data on a regular basis.
◉ The main goals of the AAINA Dashboard are to assist cities in (i) assessing their performance in comparison to other cities, (ii) motivating them by highlighting opportunities and areas for development, and (iii) offering a chance to interact and learn from frontrunners.

5. India placed 117th out of 129 countries in the US university’s inclusiveness rating.
◉ According to the Othering and Belonging Institute (OBI) at California University, India is ranked 117th out of 129 countries in the world in terms of inclusivity.
◉ For the second year in a row, New Zealand topped the ranking. Portugal finished in second place, which was their highest performance, with the Netherlands coming in third.
◉ India was ranked lower than smaller nations like Israel (115) and Bangladesh (106).
◉ Using a number of metrics, the index looks at inclusivity with regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and the broader population.

6. Vienna hosted the sixth round of the India-OPEC Energy Dialogue.
◉ The Sixth High-Level Meeting of the India-OPEC Energy Dialogue was held at the Vienna, Austria, Secretariat of OPEC.
◉ HE Haitham Al Ghais, the Secretary General of OPEC, and HE Hardeep Singh Puri, the Honorable ◉ Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Republic of India, co-chaired the meeting.
◉ The meeting’s frank and open talks covered important topics pertaining to the oil and energy markets, with a focus on guaranteeing sustainability, affordability, and availability—all of which are essential for maintaining the stability of the energy markets.

7. An interactive map for restoring biodiversity has been launched in New Zealand.
◉ A new interactive map was released by New Zealand with the goal of restoring at least 15% of the local biodiversity in each watershed over the course of the next almost 100 years.
◉ The interactive map from Eco-index provides aims for restoring 15% of biodiversity in each location as well as details on the kind of habitat that was present there historically.
◉ The initiative called Eco-index, which aims to address the issue of biodiversity decrease in New Zealand, says that the freely accessible, open-access tool will assist enterprises, government agencies, land managers, and community groups in determining restoration priorities for regions where local biodiversity is most at risk.

8. The biopic “800,” about Sri Lankan cricket player Muttiah Muralitharan, was released.
◉ On December 2, “800,” a biographical film about the legendary cricket player Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, will debut digitally on JioCinema.
◉ On October 6, the Tamil film, which stars Madhurr Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire” as the spinner, was released in theaters.
◉ The movie, which was written and directed by MS Sripathy, is called “800” in honor of the record number of wickets that Test cricketer Muralitharan amassed. Movie Train Motion Pictures is the producer.

9. RBI approves ICICI Bank’s request to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Securities.
◉ The Reserve Bank has given ICICI Bank permission to establish I-Process Services (India) Private Ltd as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the institution.
◉ At its meeting on February 17–18, 2023, the bank’s board of directors accepted a plan to establish I-Process Services (India) Private Limited (iProcess) as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the bank, contingent on obtaining the necessary statutory and regulatory approvals.
◉ I-Process Services (India) Private Ltd was founded in 2005 with the goal of offering manpower solutions services to some of the leading financial institutions in India.

10. Honored with the 19th “Kalakar Puraskar” award is Apolinaris D’Souza.
◉ Apolinaris D’Souza, a singer-songwriter, and composer, has been selected for the 19th “Kalakar Puraskar,” which is being presented by Mandd Sobhann in collaboration with “Carval Ghorane.”
◉ A citation of honor, a memento, a shawl, fruits, flowers, and Rs 50,000 in cash will be given out in conjunction with the 263rd monthly theatre at Kalaangann, Shakthinagar on November 5.
◉ Born in 1953, Apolinaris D’Souza started his path to artistic greatness at an early age. Following his graduation from St Aloysius College in Mangalore, he left for Oman in pursuit of more favorable circumstances.

11. Gurkeerat Singh Mann declared his retirement from cricket for India.
◉ Gurkeerat Singh Mann, who participated in three One-Day Internationals during the 2016 Australia tour, has declared his retirement from both international and domestic cricket.
◉ In the ODI series against Australia, the 33-year-old bowled 10 overs of off-spin in addition to batting in the middle order for India.
◉ When his explosive batting helped Punjab win the CK Nayudu Trophy in 2011, he gained notice on the home scene for the first time.
◉ He also struck a double century in the Ranji Trophy in 2015–16, when he was in outstanding form.

12. Subrata Roy, the founder of the Sahara group, passed away.
◉ Sahara India Pariwar’s founder, Subrata Roy, passed away. He was seventy-five.
◉ Born in 1948 in Araria, Bihar, he started off small, investing just Rs 2,000 to create Sahara India.
◉ He eventually relocated to Lucknow in the 1990s and established his group’s headquarters there.
◉ With 1.2 million employees, Sahara India Pariwar was formerly praised by Time magazine as the country’s second-biggest employer after Indian Railways.
◉ With almost 9 crore investors, the company claimed to have a substantial share of Indian households.

13. The Oberoi Group Chairman, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, passed away.
◉ At the age of 94, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, also known as “Biki,” the epitome of Indian hospitality and Chairman Emeritus of the Oberoi Group, departed from this life.
◉ In addition to serving as Chairman of Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, the company that holds a majority stake in EIH Limited, he was also the Executive Chairman of EIH Limited, the flagship company of The Oberoi Group.
◉ Renowned as the person who altered the perception of the Indian hotel industry.
