1. The 16th World Social Forum summit kicks off in Kathmandu in 2024.
◉ The World Social Forum (WSF) 2024’s 16th meeting got underway in
◉ Under the theme “Another World is Possible,” the five-day WSF 2024 seeks to facilitate horizontal communication between social movements, trade unions, civil society organizations, and individuals who are against neoliberal globalization.
◉ The marchers carried placards and banners with messages advocating for equality, justice, peace, and the abolition of discrimination.
◉ Numerous domestic and global groups about various fields and rights demonstrated their support for the march.
◉ Approximately forty thousand participants from ninety-two countries are anticipated for the WSF.

2. The electoral bonds program is declared unlawful by the Supreme Court
◉ The anonymous corporate contributions to political parties are deemed “violative of the right to information,” according to the Supreme Court, which ruled that the electoral bonds program is “unconstitutional.”
◉ A bench headed by India’s Chief Justice, DY Chandrachud, made the announcement.
◉ The decision emphasizes how crucial it is to protect the right to information and be transparent about political finance. It also shows how dedicated the judiciary is to defending democratic values.

3. Prime Minister Modi opens the opulent BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.
◉ The first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates, Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, was dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
◉ The BAPS temple will stand as a lasting testament to the shared ideals of harmony, peace, and tolerance between the UAE and India.
◉ Situated on a 27-acre tract in Abu Dhabi, the pink sandstone temple is among the biggest in the Middle East. Although the UAE’s official religion is Islam, over 3.6 million Indian laborers live there.

4. MeitY is scheduled to host Guwahati’s inaugural Future Skills Summit.
◉ The Future Skills Summit will be held in Guwahati by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in association with the National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT).
◉ Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, will give the event’s opening speech.
◉ The goal of the Summit is to bring together young Indians, educators, legislators, industry professionals, thought leaders and tech enthusiasts to talk about ways to ignite talent that is ready for the future in both India and the rest of the world.

5. AFMS and IIT Roorkee collaborate to advance research
◉ An agreement has been inked by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and the Armed Forces Medical Service.
◉ By encouraging cooperative biomedical research, the Memorandum of Understanding seeks to enhance the combat medical assistance and patient care provided to military troops.
◉ Armed Forces Medical Services will be able to benefit from IIT Roorkee’s experience in several areas, including the creation of cutting-edge medical technologies, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, thanks to this memorandum of understanding.
◉ In addition to research, collaborative academic activities, faculty exchange programs, and support of health care start-ups.

6. PayU and NPCI collaborate to launch the “Credit Lines on UPI” functionality.
◉ The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and payments solution provider PayU are working together to launch the “Credit Lines on UPI” functionality on PayU’s platform. This would open up new opportunities for merchant growth and financial security.
◉ More than 380 million UPI users should have simpler access to Credit Line, according to the business.
◉ By enabling pre-approved Credit Lines over UPI, banks would empower both consumers and enterprises, supporting India’s goal of financial inclusion.
◉ PayU will divulge details regarding pertinent identifiers about the kind of credit the customer has taken out, including personal loans, pay-later plans, etc., as part of the integration process.

7. SBI Capital Markets has selected Virendra Bansal as its new MD and CEO.
◉ Virendra Bansal has been named Managing Director and CEO of SBI Capital Markets (SBICAPS), the State Bank of India’s investment banking division and wholly owned subsidiary.
◉ He takes over for Rajay Kumar Sinha, who was named the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) Whole Time Member (Finance and Investment) for a three-year term.
◉ Bansal was the Country Head for SBI’s US Operations, which included its offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and São Paulo, before this promotion.

8. Nikhil Joshi was named Boeing Defence India’s MD.
◉ Nikhil Joshi has been named managing director of Boeing Defence India (BDI) by US aerospace firm Boeing.
◉ Joshi, who is based in New Delhi, will oversee all ongoing and upcoming BDI programs aimed at improving the modernization and mission readiness of India’s armed forces.
◉ Joshi possesses over 25 years of experience in the aerospace and defense business, which includes more than 20 years of active duty in the Indian Navy’s aviation section.

9. The IBA’s banking technology awards go to City Union Bank.
◉ City Union Bank (CUB), a longstanding private sector lender, has taken home seven prizes in a variety of categories at the Indian Banks Association’s (IBA) 19th Banking Technology Conference, Expo & Citations 2023 in Mumbai.
◉ The awards are intended to identify the top technology suppliers to the banking sector, and spur competition among them to showcase their cutting-edge, creative solutions, a clear mission, and significant contributions to Best Practices for customer service at the bank.
◉ Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar of the RBI presented the awards to N Kamakodi, MD and CEO of City Union Bank, along with his technological team.

10. MoD and AWEIL executed a contract for 463 stabilized remote-control guns for the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy.
◉ At a total cost of Rs. 1752.13 crores, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL), Kanpur, for the manufacturing and supply of 463 12.7 mm stabilized remote-control guns (SRCG) for the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. The guns will be manufactured domestically.
◉ With the SRCG, the Navy and Coast Guard will be better equipped to identify and take down tiny targets that pose a risk to ships in an asymmetrical environment, day or night.
◉ The acquisition will contribute to the realization of the “Aatmanirbharta in Defence” goal.
◉ For more than 125 Indian vendors, this contract will create significant opportunities in the defense industrial sector.

11. Hungary receives the Chess Olympiad Torch from Anurag Thakur.
◉ Budapest, Hungary received the Olympic Chess Torch from Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.
◉ The 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad will be held in Hungary.
◉ In New Delhi, at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, the torch was passed.
◉ At the 44th Chess Olympiad, which took place in Chennai in 2022, more than 2500 players from around the world competed.

12. Rachna Kumari, an Indian hammer thrower, was suspended for 12 years due to doping.
◉ Hammer thrower Rachna Kumari has been punished for 12 years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating anti-doping rules twice.
In samples taken while competing at the National Games in Patiala on September 24 and November 1, Rachna yielded positive results for several anabolic androgenic steroids last year.
◉ Before this, Rachna was suspended for four years, from 2015 to 2019. This suspension started on November 24.
