1. India and Nepal decide to advance Sanskrit studies and instruction.
◉ Scholars of Sanskrit from India and Nepal have suggested holding an annual International Sanskrit Conference, as well as establishing a study center to carry out research and plan the publication of Sanskrit texts, particularly the manuscripts discovered in the Himalayan region.
◉ The main goals of the international conference were to advance Sanskrit education in India and Nepal and improve ties between the two countries.

2. In FY 2023–2024, defense exports reach a record of Rs 21,083 crore.
◉ In the Financial Year (FY) 2023–2024, defense exports reached a record of Rs 21,083 crore (about US$ 2.63 billion), a 32.5% increase over the previous fiscal year when the amount was Rs 15,920 crore.
◉ According to the most recent data, defense exports have increased 31 times over the past ten years compared to FY 2013–14.
◉ The defense industry has worked extremely hard to achieve the highest-ever defense exports, including the private sector and Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
About 60% and 40% of the contributions have come from the private sector and DPSUs.

3. Hattisgarh-based Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a division of Vedanta Aluminium, has become the first company in India to obtain the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard V3 Certification for the production and distribution of a broad range of primary aluminum products at its facility in Korba.
◉ It attempts to address sustainability issues like biodiversity, rights of indigenous peoples, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions in the aluminum value chain. CETIZION Verifica was the independent third-party auditor that performed the audit of Balco.
◉ The ASI Certification program is the only complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the global aluminum value chain. It was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process.

4. In March, GST revenue increased by 11.5% to ₹1.78 lakh crore.
◉ According to figures issued by the Ministry of Finance, India’s Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) income for March 2024 reached ₹1.78 lakh crore (1,78,484 crore), the second-highest collection ever.
◉ This spike was caused by a notable increase in GST revenue from domestic transactions, which increased to 17.6%.
◉ In comparison to the same period last year, GST revenue net of refunds for March 2024 is ₹1.65 lakh crore, an increase of 18.4%.

5. In India, credit card usage surpasses 100 million: RBI
◉ With an increase of 1.1 million cards from the previous month, the total number of credit cards issued by Indian banks crossed the 100 million card threshold in February 2024.
◉ The Reserve Bank of India recently published data showing that there were 100.60 million credit cards in circulation. There were 99.5 million cards in circulation as of February 2023.
◉ With 20.40 million credit cards in use, HDFC Bank leads the industry in credit card issuing. Axis Bank has 13.90 million cards, ICICI Bank has 16.84 million, and SBI Card has 18.75 million cards. These three banks are also significant players.

6. With ₹199 lakh crore in executed transactions, UPI closes FY24 on a positive note.
◉ The API, or Unified Payments Interface, is becoming more and more robust. UPI transactions concluded FY24 at a high point in terms of both volume and value.
◉ 13,115 crore transactions totaling ₹199.29 lakh crore were handled through the UPI platform in FY24, up from 8,376 crore transactions valued ₹139 lakh crore in FY23. This is an increase of nearly 57% in volume and 43% in value, respectively.
◉ NPCI data shows that in March 2024, transactions of ₹19.78 lakh crore were executed, surpassing the previous highest of ₹18.41 lakh crore in January 2024.

◉ In the area of “Renewable Energy Financing,” REC Limited, a prominent NBFC and Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has been granted the SKOCH ESG Award 2024.
◉ The honor highlights REC’s commitment to sustainable financing, opening doors for a more environmentally friendly future and quickening the switch to renewable energy sources.
◉ In India’s shift to clean energy, REC has grown to be a major participant that is actively advancing the sustainable future of the country. REC has committed to multiple sustainable projects and signed multiple MOUs for green projects through a variety of activities and accomplishments.

8. Salima Tete and Hardik Singh are the 2023 Player of the Year winners.
◉ At the sixth annual Hockey India awards, men’s and women’s Player of the Year for 2023 was awarded to Hardik Singh and Salima Tete, respectively.
◉ With ₹7.56 crores in total prize money, teams and individuals were recognized for their accomplishments during the previous year at the awards.
◉ It’s interesting to note that, eight years after winning the Junior World Cup, the men’s squad was honored at the function.

9. Miami Open Tennis Men’s Single champion Jannik Sinner wins.
◉ The Miami Open men’s singles champion in the United States is Jannik Sinner of Italy.
In the championship match, the second-seeded Sinner defeated the eleventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov, 6-3, 6-1.
◉ With his third triumph of the year, Sinner will surpass Carlos Alcaraz of Spain to take the top spot in the ATP global rankings, a career-high.
◉ The Women’s Singles champion is Danielle Collins, an American player ranked unseeded. Collins pulled off a stunning upset by beating Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, ranked fourth, in the championship match in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).
