1. In North Dakota, Nitin Gadkari unveils the first car powered entirely by ethanol.
◉ In New Delhi, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari unveiled the first automobile powered entirely by ethanol.
◉ The first BS-VI (Stage-II), electrified flex-fuel car in the world that can run entirely on ethanol-based fuel has been introduced.
◉ The country will reduce its annual import bill by 35 thousand crore rupees by blending 20 percent ethanol into gasoline.
◉ Five months earlier than the initial target date of 2022, India has blended 10% ethanol.
◉ The country’s import cost has decreased and the farmers have already made 82 thousand crores of rupees thanks to the ethanol blending process.
2. M.K. Stalin expands the breakfast program
◉ Sri Lanka At a cost of 404.41 crore, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the expansion of the state’s popular Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to include 17 lakh pupils in classes 1 through 5 enrolled in 31,008 public schools throughout the state.
◉ Nearly 92,000 children under the age of six who were part of a survey of 10 lakh urban children to determine their nutritional status were underweight.
◉ They received dietary supplements from the government, and as a result, 62,000 children with malnutrition recovered.
◉ The breakfast program’s goal was to end hunger by improving children’s nutritional status and lowering malnutrition rates.
3. Green hydrogen innovation partnerships with HSBC India have been announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
◉ This involves collaborations with IIT Bombay and the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation to pursue technology developments that will increase the effectiveness, affordability, and scalability of green hydrogen.
◉ With a combined grant support of Rs 15 crore (USD 2 mn), these two partnerships will concentrate on innovation projects that will support the government’s goal of creating an energy-independent country by helping to prioritize green hydrogen as a strategic alternate fuel.
4. The chief minister of Odisha gives slum residents land rights certificates.
◉ Sixty-five thousand low-income families residing in the slums of five major towns, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Rourkela, have received land rights certificates from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
◉ Slum dwellers are only granted land rights in the state of Odisha throughout the entire nation.
◉ The Chief Minister stated, “Financial support will also be provided for the construction of homes, on this occasion.

8. Crowned as Miss Earth India 2023 is Priyan Sain

12. Jayanta Mahapatra, an English poet, passes away.
◉ At the age of 95, renowned author and poet Jayanta Mahapatra passed dead.
◉ In 1981, Mahapatra became the first poet from India to get a Sahitya Akademi award for English poetry.
◉ In 2009, he also received the Padma Shri honor. He did, however, return it in 2015 in opposition to “rising intolerance in India.”
◉ Mahapatra wrote 27 books of poetry, seven of which are in the Odia language and the rest in English. His works, “Indian Summer” and “Hunger,” are regarded as masterpieces in contemporary Indian English literature.
