Current Affairs of 7th August – National News


1. ‘Naya Savera’ or the ‘Free Coaching and Allied’ scheme was implemented by the Ministry.
◉ The “Naya Savera” initiative, often referred to as the “Free Coaching and Allied” scheme, was put into place by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
◉ Goal: To provide specific preparation for qualifying exams for students and candidates from the six minority communities, namely Sikh, Jain, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and Parsi.
◉ The coaching term under the program was anywhere between three months and two years.
◉ Getting ready for entrance exams for technical/professional programs including engineering, medicine, law, management, computer technology, etc., as well as language and aptitude tests necessary for applying to overseas colleges.

2. BHEL and Greenstat have an MoU to look into potential opportunities in the hydrogen value chain.
◉ For possible chances for collaboration in Green Hydrogen and its derivatives in the Hydrogen Value Chain, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Greenstat Hydrogen India Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
◉ This agreement will open the door for cooperation along the whole hydrogen value chain, supporting the government of India’s “National Hydrogen Mission” to turn India into “Atmanirbhar.”
◉ In order to research and develop projects connected to the production, marketing, and usage of green hydrogen, BHEL, and Greenstat Hydrogen India are working together to create a framework for cooperation.

3. Port Health Organization is established by Sarbananda Sonowal and Sagar Setu
◉ Port Health Organization (PHO) module has been introduced by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), and Ayush, under Sagar Setu – National Logistics Portal (Marine).
◉ To protect residents and port personnel, PHO will carry out disease surveillance, health inspections, and quarantine procedures.
◉ The introduction of the PHO module is yet another step in our systems’ modernization and digitization, which will increase the country’s ease of doing business.
◉ The Port Health Organization module, which includes features like requests for PHO clearance certificates, PHO approval, online certification generation, tracking of request status, etc., has been designed as a component of “Ease of Doing Business.”

4. 35 universities and the Bureau of Indian Standards reach an agreement
◉ The Bureau of Indian Standards, the nation’s national standards body, has signed MoUs with 35 organizations nationwide to promote cooperation in standardization and conformity assessment.
◉ Several well-known NITs and government and private engineering colleges from various states across the nation are among the institutes.
◉ By collaborating with the technical committees of the Bureau at the national and international levels, it will open the door for the partner institutions to take part in standardization operations.

5. China intends to limit children’s smartphone use to two hours each day.
◉ China’s cyberspace authority has proposed regulations that would cap children’s smartphone use at two hours per day and mandate that all tech companies provide “minor mode” to enable restrictions.
◉ The Cyberspace Administration of China posted the proposed regulations on its website, claiming that children under the age of 16 and children under the age of 18 would only be permitted to use the internet for two hours per day and that minors would not be permitted to use the majority of mobile internet services from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

6. Honeywell High Growth Region hires Anant Maheshwari as president and chief executive officer
◉ Anant Maheshwari, a former executive of Microsoft India, has been named president and chief executive officer of Honeywell High Growth Region, effective September 4, 2023.
◉ Maheshwari will direct strategic growth initiatives in these important markets while overseeing operations in China, India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
From 2004 until 2016, Maheshwari worked for the company in a variety of executive positions before being named President of Honeywell India.
◉ Maheshwari spent seven years as the head of Microsoft India before returning to Honeywell. Maheshwari will be succeeded by Puneet Chandok, the previous Head of AWS India.

7. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal is named as the next CBIC Chairman by the government.
◉ After Vivek Johri’s retirement, the Union government named Sanjay Kumar Agarwal as the next chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
◉ Sanjay Kumar Agarwal is the chairman of CBIC and the special secretary to the Indian government. He joined the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in 1988.
◉ Separately, the ministry selected Indian Revenue Service employee Surjit Bhujabal, class of 1989, as a member of CBIC with the title of special secretary to the government.
◉ At the Directorate of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in New Delhi, Bhujabal is the Principal Director General at the moment.

8. ‘Halla Bol’ is a new short film series by SAI.
◉ A short film series called “Halla Bol” on the trip of athletes headed to the Asian Games has been released by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as part of the umbrella campaign “Cheer4India.”
◉ Goal: To inspire them to participate in the Asian Games in Hangzhou and raise awareness of them.
◉ A total of 12 short films will be shown in the upcoming weeks, according to SAI.
◉ SAI emphasized that the program will inspire young people in the nation to take up athletics in addition to the athletes attending the Asian Games.
◉ Before the Tokyo Olympics, ‘Olympics ki Aasha,’ a film series akin to this one, was released.

9. At WAC 2023, Aditi Swami becomes the first Indian woman to win a world championship.
◉ At the 2023 World Archery Championships final in Berlin, Indian archer Aditi Swami won the individual World Title for the first time ever.
◉ In the championship match of the compound women’s event, Aditi, then 17 years old, defeated Andrea Becerra of Mexico 149–147 to win the title of senior world champion.
◉ In contrast, India’s Ojas Deotale also made history when he defeated Poland’s Lukasz Przybylski in the Men’s Individual Compound event’s exciting final.
◉ In an all-Indian semifinal earlier in the day, Aditi defeated her “idol,” Jyothi Surekha Vennam, 149-145.

10. National Handloom Day is on August 7.
◉ India celebrates National Handloom Day on August 7 of each year.
◉ The main objectives of Handloom Day are to promote handloom and honor the talents and efforts of the community of weavers involved in the industry.
◉ The first National Handloom Day was marked in 2015, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over its inauguration. The purpose of the day is to raise public awareness of the value of the handloom industry.
◉ To honor the beginning of the Swadeshi Movement on the same day in 1905 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), August 7 was designated as National Handloom Day. Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, and Lala Lajpat Rai took over as the movement’s leaders at that point.

◉ Gaddar, also known as Gummadi Vittal Rao, was a revolutionary balladeer and well-known folk singer who has gone away.

◉ He gained the moniker “people’s singer” thanks to his songs that highlighted a variety of problems experienced by the average person.
