1. India surpasses Japan to become the third-largest auto market globally: Report
◉ According to Nikkei Asia, India for the first time eclipsed Japan in auto sales last year, moving up to the third-largest auto market globally.
◉ At least 4.25 million new cars were sold in the nation, surpassing Japan’s 4.2 million sales.
◉ Between January and November 2022, 4.13 million new automobiles were supplied in India, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
◉ The number is increased to over 4.25 million vehicles by including the Maruti Suzuki sales volume for December, which is the largest automaker in India.
2. Delhi and Bangalore are two of the world’s top-performing airports in 2022.
◉ Following the performance of airports and airlines, Cirium published a list of the world’s top-performing airports for 2022. Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore took second place, while Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi took seventh place.

◉ For the Indian Army in Jammu, the state-owned refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) of India has introduced low-smoke Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO).
◉ BPCL has emerged as the first OMC to start supplying the Army with the new LSLA grade SKO supplies, which will significantly improve the working environment and resolve difficulties with smoke and odour when using SKO.
◉ The usage of regular kerosene in higher altitudes, where the oxygen level is extremely low, presents a health risk to the workers due to the significant smoke it emits.
◉ The low-smoke kerosene will give soldiers cleaner fuel.

10. Former Bengali governor The demise of Keshari Nath Tripathi
◉ Keshari Nath Tripathi, a former governor of West Bengal and three-time speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, passed away recently in Prayagraj. He was 88.
◉ Tripathi has served as the governor of Bihar, Meghalaya, and Mizoram in addition to West Bengal.
◉ Tripathi, who was also a senior attorney at the Allahabad High Court, was born on November 10, 1934, in the former city of Allahabad.
◉ When he was only 12 years old, he joined the RSS. Later, he changed to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
